Application Guidelines for the 2025-2026 Faculty Exchange Program with the University of Strasbourg
The Faculty Exchange Program with the University of Strasbourg is provided through the cooperation agreement for academic exchange concluded between the two universities. The program facilitates the exchange and hosting of researchers from both institutions in order to promote research collaboration. The terms and procedures for Kyoto University researchers to apply to visit the University of Strasbourg through the program are detailed below.
Area of Research:
Any research areas can/may be pursued at the University of Strasbourg

Eligibility:
Full-time faculty members at Kyoto University (professors, associate professors, lecturers, assistant professors)
Please confirm the following before applying:
・The applicant must continue to be employed by Kyoto University for the duration of the program being applied for.
・Full-time fixed-term program-specific faculty members are also eligible to apply provided they have received permission from their supervisor.

Leave Japan on or after September 1, 2025, and return to Japan by June 30, 2026
Duration of Stay:
14–16 days
Selection Criteria:
- Is the research plan clear, specific, and feasible?
- Is the visit likely to promote research in the relevant field at Kyoto University and the University of Strasbourg?
- Is the visit likely to lead to sustainable research collaboration and exchange in the future?
Application Procedures:
Please have your faculty/department’s administrative office submit all of the required application documents to the International Relations Promotion Section of Kyoto University’s International Affairs Division.
Submission Deadline:
17:00, April 15 (Tue.), 2025
Please note that this is the deadline established by the International Affairs Division. The deadline for submission of the documents to the administrative office of each faculty/department is earlier than the deadline above. Please be sure to confirm the deadline for submission to your faculty/department’s administrative office.
Application Materials:
Please submit the following by email to the administrative division of your faculty/department.
1. Application Form (for Kyoto University)
2. Visiting professor – Application Form (including CV and list of publications)
3. Letter of Invitation (issued by the host researcher at the University of Strasbourg)
Please note: These materials will be used by Kyoto University to select candidates for the program. Once the candidates have been selected, items 2 and 3 will be submitted to the University of Strasbourg for their approval. The forms shall not be used for any other purposes.
Expenses provided by the University of Strasbourg:
- Travel Expenses (cost of a return economy-class air ticket between an airport in Japan and Strasbourg, and the shuttle or train expenses for travel between an airport in France and Strasbourg)
- Daily stipend (€90 per day for accommodation expenses, meal expenses, and other miscellaneous expenses during your stay in France. The daily stipend is provided based on the regulations of the University of Strasbourg. Program participants will stay at a guest house at the University of Strasbourg.)
Please note: Domestic transportation expenses between your home and the airport in Japan must be provided by you or your faculty/department of affiliation.
Remarks:
- Program participants must provide two lectures during their stay in France. The lectures will be held at the University of Strasbourg and at Maison Universitaire France Japon.
- Successful candidates must make their travel and accommodation arrangements in cooperation with the administrative staff in charge (or the host professor) at the University of Strasbourg, and follow the necessary procedures as instructed.
- Program participants are required to personally enroll in an overseas travel insurance plan. Please be sure to consult with the International Affairs Division before purchasing the insurance. The cost of the insurance will be reimbursed by the International Affairs Division. (Further details will be provided to the administrative division of your department after the announcement of successful applicants.)
The International Affairs Division will register your information with the Japan IR&C Corporation’s risk management support system after you purchase the insurance. - Please note that if you wish to change of your plan for the visit after you have been selected, you must obtain an approval for the change. (In principle, participants are not allowed to change their air ticket as it is arranged by the University of Strasbourg.)
- You must submit a report of your achievements in accordance with the program guidelines within two weeks after completion of the program.
